Maybe the most un-sexiest topic ever...
So I was wondering...
How do you and your companion split up chores around the house? My husband has been working twelve hour shifts lately, about 50-60 hours per week. I've been off school for the summer, but am gearing up to go back to work, plus I'm taking classes working on a master's degree and playing gigs on the side. I;m sympathetic to the hours that he is working, I know it's alot, but I honestly feel like I'm doing just as much as he is and the lion's share of housekeeping is still falling on me. So how do some of the rest of you divvy it up?

We just divide and conquer. For example, I might start out by cutting the grass and she'll start dusting, vacuuming, and mopping. After I'm finished and showered, I'll clean the bathrooms. Then, after dinner, we'll clean the kitchen tip to toe.
We have variations on this routine, and the kids are old enough now to start pulling some weight. Key message is that it is OUR house, not Mommy's house.

Look at it from purely a numbers view. You are both consuming hours from a finite daily/weekly quantity. And the use of those hours sound like peek demanding ones for both of you. That doesn't allow taking any from rest and things that only you must do for yourselves. That only leaves allocating duties that can be done by other heads and hands to somebody else.
Some overhead maintenance (house cleaning/laundry/yard work) has to be hired out. That can be done for a temporary period until these peeks come back down to normal. Hopefully the extra efforts now provide both the extra means to do that and continuation of the extra income.
Unless you can face up to the fact that you were both fucking off before, there just isn't going to be more hours in a day to draw from.

I think every couple since time began has had issues with the same things. One of which is household chores. And sadly I do not think anyone has come up with a good solution yet.
I've heard of a few different things couples do....
1 - The one home 1st cooks, the other cleans up afterward, alternate weeks of doing the bathrooms and vacuming, one goes shopping this week, the other goes next week and so on.
2 - Use days off and do everything together splitting everything in half.
3 - Even numbered days your turn, odd numbered his.
In the end I really don't know if any of that works.
Good luck.

We don't have a great solution, but we keep a whiteboard on the 'fridge that marks off which days are trash days, lawn days, bathroom days, vacuuming, etc. and who is responsible.

I'm the one that works 50+ hours a week. He is retired but incredibly busy with writing and other stuff. He does the grocery shopping, chauffeuring the kid around, scrubbing floors, light household chores, and he does the dishes. I do the laundry, ironing, deep housecleaning (when I have the time), and I do most of the cooking. He pays the bills and I help spend the money.

I admit she does most of the typical house work. I hate doing dishes but will help. She's got me trained (for the most part) to take my clothes to the laundry room. We both pick up and drop el kiddo, at preschool.
My duties for the most part involve taking the trash out, mowing the lawn, and any poop related duties that might pop up, be it dog accidents or changing the kitty litter.
