Ok....but don't forget....You Asked For It! LOL I don't have a particular bad DAY to vent about or whine about, but a whole series of events that have led me to where I am today. (And RG, please don't take this as a "Can you top this?" because I'm not trying to say my problems are/were worse than yours, although that may appear to be what I'm doing.)
Alright......A week before Christmas in 1998 we had a housefire (the second one for us in 11 yrs.). We lost a majority of our belongings and one beloved cat. We desperately needed to find a new home and it wasn't easy to find a place to rent that would let us have our remaining pets. We finally found what seemed to be a damn nice little place and the landlady seemed to be pretty decent to deal with. What we didn't know, and didn't learn till some time later is that she never listed her property with the city as a rental property. Over the 3 1/2 yrs we were there she managed to dodge the bldg inspectors more than a few times.
In the meantime, there were some problems in my marriage. Actually it was only one problem, and that's how and why I discovered Pixies. Here at Pixies I found acceptance, understanding, and friendship................and one very special friend, Murphy. I don't know where I'd be right now without him.
He has been a real blessing to me...in many ways and I thank God for him!
Murphy invited my husband and I to visit him and his family this past summer. Just before we left for this long awaited and very much needed vacation all hell broke loose at home. Because of a complaint about 2 non-running cars in our driveway, the city caught up with the landlady. There were building inspectors practically coming out of walls! She was ordered to make multiple improvements to bring the house up to code. Guess who paid the price for her getting found out? Yep....you got it! US!! She started by having workers from a hydraulics company she owns tow our cars onto the street so she could empty the garage of HER two dead cars and heaps of junk. Then she refused to tow them back to the driveway until we could junk them. We got tickets for "abandoning" the vehicles. While we were in MO we received a notice to appear in court for that. Naturally we didn't appear because we didn't know about it......so they upped the fine and suspended my husband's drivers license. THEN....any of our stuff that was in the garage was strewn about the yard and we had to clean that up and put what we wanted to keep behind the garage (extra $100 pr mo to use garage). When we got home from vacation, we found the tarp we had put over our stuff behind the garage was removed and everything was soaked because it had rained.
THEN..she has her "flunkies", as we came to call them, replacing the roof. She is so cheap, she won't supply them with decent equipment to do the job. No nail guns or stuff like that. So we have to listen to first all the noise of them removing the old shingles practically by hand, then hammering the new ones on. Meanwhile she found we had our gas and elec. on illegally and had them shut off. So we're in the dark, no hot water, and being "tormented" by her workers 12 hrs a day. While the power was off we had borrowed a generator so that we could at least have one lamp, the TV and of course the computers going. Well, the next door neighbor got pissed and complained to the police. They came out, and when they saw we had no heat or light, and all the stuff in the house that should have been in the garage they reported us to the building department. They came out the next day....the day before I was going to have the money to get the utilities restored.....and forcibly locked us out of the house because by city regs you must have 2 of the 3 of heat, elec, and water available or the house is considered unfit for human habitation. So now, there we are, on the street and have to spend $ we can't afford to spend two nights in a motel.
During all of this we have no use of our driveway because her flunkies need to use it. THEN they come on a SUNDAY MORNING with a rented jackhammer and start breaking up the driveway!!
It takes them the better part of a week to complete that. They take nearly a week to clear the busted concrete. Now, we have no driveway to use. One Sat. evening she showed up with another of her flunkies to drop of a cement roller for use with the new driveway. The next morning my husband discovers his tool box, which he could no longer keep in the garage and was too heavy to take in the house was GONE!!!! Thirty years of accumulating them, not to mention monitary value...all gone!!
And of course the bitch claimed to know nothing about it.
Then she serves us with an eviction notice. Her complaint was we were living without gas/elec. In the meantime, we've had the power restored and figure she has no grounds and the judge will rule in our favor. WRONG!!.......we were renting month to month and were informed that under those circumstances the owner can demand possession at any time.
So now we have to move.....IN 10 DAYS!!
We had decided that when my husband was eligible to retire, we would relocate to MO. But with this situation thrust upon us, we had to move and really didn't want to have to move twice in two years. So hubby is taking an early retirement in December. I couldn't find anywhere to stay with the cats nor could I find a local shelter to temporarily house them. The only place that would take them in was the Humane Society in Murphy's area. So to help me not have to give my cats away, Murphy and his wife have very graciously allowed me to bunk with them until hubby retires. So here I am 800+ miles away from my husband until December.
All the moving was left to hubby and sons...and with the time pressure, plus my job witholding my final pay for a week, leaving them broke back home they couldn't get a large enough storage locker and many of our belongings had to be left behind. And since I'm here I couldn't help choose what to leave. Plenty of my stuff got left behind. And no one seems to be able to tell me what they left...so I just have to wait until it's all moved out here.
There you have it.......there's more but I think I've babbled and blithered quite enough. I'm not trying to get anyone to feel sorry for me. I'm just venting....and venting......and venting and in my own way trying to say I understand, RG, how you would want to just disappear from you life as you know it. It's a tempting thought at times. I luv you, lady....hang in there, it HAS to get better!!
