Browser help!

Since I got my new laptop a couple of months ago, whenever my Internet Explorer browser can't find a page, it takes me to http://search.myway.com/ instead of the Cannot display page page. Why????? Is there anyway I can change it so that it doesn't automatically go to that page? (Dunno if it has something to do with it, but I'm on Windows XP.)

I've had a similar situation. It's not the same page, but it's a Dell driven page. I've not bothered to try to fix it though, so I'm really not much help.

Sneaky little trick started by Microsoft this one. Most computers instead of returning a "Page can not be displayed" message they actually redirect the request to http://auto.search.msn.com. you can test this by just typing something like "Hello" in the address bar, because it's not a valid web address it will kick of a search. It looks like one of two things has happened on your laptop:

1. It's infected with adware, although if it's been doing this since you got it I doubt that's the case.

2. The company has modified the install of Internet Explorer to use the MyWay.com search instead of the default MSN one.

I think you can turn it off within Internet Explorer options as follows:

Goto "tools" - "Internet Options", then click on the "Advanced" tab scroll down the list to "Search from Address bar" and select "Do not search from the Address bar", click "apply" then "OK" and you should now get the Page cannot be displayed messages.

In order to completely remove the MyWay thing from your system you'd have to edit the system registry which I wouldn't advise unless you really know what you're doing in there!!!

Hope that helps

As if it isn't bad enough you run the risk of adware infecting your puter from the web, it appears the manufacturers are pre-loading the crap now...
