Transitions: Peter Jennings
I've just learned as I glanced at the special on ABC this evening, Peter Jennings has died today.
He was a tremendous reporter and touched so many large events of our lives and passed them along to us on the airwaves.

"There are a lot of people who think our job is to reassure the public every night that their home, their community and their nation is safe," he told author Jeff Alan. "I don't subscribe to that at all. I subscribe to leaving people with essentially — sorry it's a cliche — a rough draft of history. Some days it's reassuring, some days it's absolutely destructive."
"I have never spent a day in my adult life where I didn't learn something," Jennings told the Saturday Evening Post. "And if there is a born-again quality to me, that's it."
Rest in peace, Mr. Jennings. And thank you.

I am shocked by this announcement, and never realized how advanced his condition was, I guess. I have pretty much grown up with this man telling me the day's news at the dinner table, and can't imagine him not doing that anymore. He's been in ABC's anchor chair since 1983, and I can even remember his coverage of certain events...he was a calming presence in the shadow of distaster. Just the other day my family and I were questioning his progress, and wishing him back.
His integrity and commitment to quality journalism will be missed.

He was my favourite anchor & I always had a crush on him. When 9/11 happened, I turned to ABC for his calm covereage.
He was the first Canadian to make it big in journalism across the border.
"No one could ad lib like Peter," said Barbara Walters. "Sometimes he drove me crazy because he knew so many details."
RIP sexy newsman

Yeah its very sad. I have been watching Good Morning America all morning as they pay tribute to Peter. He was my favorite news anchor that I have watched since I was a kid. Rest in peace Peter.
