Pesky Pest Problem

I have got ants like a motherfucker in my house. I have tried everything I know of and I can't get rid of the little bastards. They are everywhere and no matter how often I do the dishes or vacuum or clean they are STILL THERE!! Any suggestions?

When you do suggest, remember I have a one year old on the premises - i don't know if that will make a difference in responses or not.

Sounds to me that you have a nest or two in the walls or roof

'Ant Rid' is what i use or bring in a professional to do it....

Twice a year, I spread ant dust around the perimeter of the house and they're gone the next day. Obviously this is for ants coming into the house for food and not carpenter ants. If you haven't had ongoing ant problems, or have recently cut down trees where they could've nested, odds are they're entering the house to gather food and leaving. Spreading the dust around the outside will force them to walk through it...and when they clean themselves "voila" dead ant.

Seems we get infested every year, back in the spring I tried all sorts of ant baits & powders with no lasting results, until I tried this professional grade spray (sorry, can't remember the name), comes in a gallon jug with its own spray nozzle, you basically spray all around the outside perimeter of the house & around doors, windows, outlets, & any other points of entry...it scares me a little, since you're supposed to avoid using it in food prep areas (but that's where the little bastards are worst!), but the ants are gone & the family is still walking, so....

I had a big bottle of Raid. I'd spray any sucker that dared come in the apartment (yes, PF, too).

Dead ant, Dead ant (to the theme of the pink panther)

Well ants are usually attracted to anything sweet and any food crumbs or any food scraps left about at the kitchen sink. But if the are still coming after you've done all the cleaning then I can only think of one thing, they are migrating into your home!!!!!! Nah just kidding.

Either hire a pest controler or get ant rid or some other stuff that will get rid of them.

HAHA Mark V. is a musical funny man (everyone direct your attention to the subject line of his post above...I'll wait.)

Seriously, thanks everyone for your advice. I'm going to try the dust on the perimiter thing since it seems like the safest way to go for my son. I really don't want that kind of chemicals in the house, although I have been attacking anything that moves (excluding said child) with Raid.

I'll let you know.

I use a product called Ant Kill. It is a gel like liquid that you squeeze out of the container usually under baseboards and on the basment wall around the perimeter of the house. I think you have to put one drop every 10 feet and if you know where the vicinity of the ant hill is, there too.

Is that because she might get the police and army to start shooting at them?

In years past I have used fresh mint leaves scattered around the areas I've seen them. This is the first year I didn't have very good results with this technique. So either I didn't use enough mint or these were a different type of ant that I've had in years past.

I was just told this little remedy yesterday...put uncooked rice around the areas where you notice the ants, they will eat it, go back to the nest, swell up and die!
