(As a side note, my mother gave birth to a stillborn that weighed over 13 lbs......that was back in the late 30's when prenatal care consisted of the dr asking how she felt and that was about all.)

Sounds like gestational diabetes to me. I had a mild case of it with my second child, who was 9 lbs. 12 oz.... a whole lot bigger than my first child who weighed in at a whopping 5 lbs!

I'm with flute lady on this one, my mom had it with me and I was 10 pounds 9 ounces and that was with them taking me three weeks early too.

The article I read prior to this thread in here did state that the mom was suffering from gestational diabetes.

Yup....don't remember where I heard the story first, but that was the problem. Still, da'am! My friend's one year old just about weighs that much.
