Feminism
Other than myself, does anyone else consider themselves feminists to some extent?
The only debate I have is some forms (mostly from second wave) about pornography. Though at some point they do have a point about if effecting interaction and degradation of a female to a sexual ideal for men. Thats why I like Pixies. We all do it because we want to.

feminist in that I support movements that are pro female equality and that advance issues that pertain to females wherever they are in the world.

^^^^what my sister said
I am feminist in the sense that I intend to have my say on issues that specifically pertain to my gender and will work to make sure that women are given both the respects and rights they deserve. But I do not call myself a feminist in general because to imply that an organized socio-political group is necessary to advance the causes of women implies that we are different. And different often means not equal to some.

Feminist.....
I believe that women should have rights just as anyone else. I do agree with you Lilith. In some respect there are some things that women just can't do because of the strength abilities that women don't have. If they do have those strengh abilities I would have to call them BUTCH.
I found myself iwhile in college and in the drafting field , the majority of the classes taken I was the only woman. When it came down to a male student having a problem with a drawing the teacher directed him to me. I which he tucked his tail and would not look my direction because I was a woman.
Sometimes is is hard working in a mans world, yet in todays society both have to work to make ends meat.
I'm just trying to make it thru life!

I am a proud feminist (to the surprise of nobody here, I'm sure).
I just read recently that print reporters who are female make $9,000 less than their male counterparts. I have a problem with that. Sorry, I'm a feminist.

I am an equalist and an individualist. I think both men and women should be treated equally but also as individuals. Everyone is unique, regardless of gender, race, sexuality, political views or wealth.
The word "feminist" to me implies favouritism towards women. Because women may be discriminated against, does not mean they SHOULD be treated any better than men. It just means they SHOULD be treated THE SAME as men.

Yes, I'm a feminist. And the way most of the women here are defining it, I don't know why anyone would have a problem with such a label. If a person were thinking of it terms of the way CasperTG defined it, I can see why they might not like it, however.

That was pretty much my point, BlueSwede - the word 'feminism' has so many different meaning and connotations assosciated with it.

Many faces of feminism are aimed at being anti male instead of pro female.
I beleive in equality not one gender being given preference over another. Equal pay for equal work, equal say in decisions.
There are some things that being one gender precludes you from because of that. men cannot bear children and women cannot contribute their sperm to the sperm bank.
All of this needs to be topped off with a good dose of common sense. We cannot have a world without either.

sixsense,
As articulated above, feminism seems to be a laudable goal. I'm for it.

<--------Not a feminist!
I am a woman...and therefore I am in a minority group of world classifications........of which I hate that there is such a thing....but that's where I am.
I don't agree with many 'feminist" ideas and ideals......but I do agree with some.......
Equal pay for equal work.....and the chance to prove that I am equal in qualification to a man! I work in a job that would mostly pertain to a man (in some eyes) and I know for a fact that the person (a man) before me got a higher pay rate than I do now......and I pleaded my case and was offered more responsibility for more pay and I turned it down and told them why. Because it benefited them to have me do the tasks offered, more than it would benefit me with the pay raise and the stress of more responsibility! I'm sick and tired of trying to make this point in a male lead society! The guy before me in my job didn't have the added responsibility to get the rate he got.....why do I have to?
Also.........I agree with bra burning, cigarrette lighting and men holding doors and chairs for me...... .....but that's as far as my feminisim goes!

Whats to be sorry about? It seems many here are actually feminist, but afraid of that term because to the skewing that had happened from the opposition. (Rush's "Femi-Nazi" comes to mind).

Though still not considering myself a feminist, I have to admit I was sort of for a moment excited that for once my country may be respresented by someone of my gender.
