I saw an article by a Chinese Dr. stating that erectile dysfunction was just as common in women as in men, but less visually obvious and therefore less understood.

I never like to pre-empt what anyone may wish to say on a thread, but the Dr. was suggesting that this not uncommon problem would explain a loss in sex drive etc. He listed a lot of potential causes, but I just wondered if anyone knew about the subject as I always feel that awareness is better than ignorance.

I have read many articles about the hype of women's sexual dysfunction suggesting it is simply a way to cash in on the Viagra treasure mine. Is an interesting situation...

It's interesting I did a search on yahoo for "G spot erectile dysfunction" and all the sites that came back were trying to sell something I didn't find anything giving "proper" advice about it.

www.herbolove.com/article.asp?Art=239
www.actionlove.com/cases/case10027.htm (this one had a little "advice" from someone then linked straight to the 1st link!)
http://www.lycos.co.uk/dir/Lifestyl...tral/Sexuality/ (I didn't look too hard on this one)
http://www.weight-loss-drugs-viagra...cal/index.shtml (I think the link says it all!)

I checked Google and came out with the same as you FP. It is an interesting situation and there appears no "real" science on the subject. So, does it even exist? Do women know when it is happening and how would a man know?

I presume that a functioning clitoris and G spot are important, yet I for one am completely ignorant of any potential problems.

I think Lilith is closest to the truth. Someone wants to cash, not that I mind as long as someone is really being helped.

The article still describes at as a secondary symptom for a host of varied other serious health concerns like, heart disease, diabetes, depression. I question how much good it does to treat the sexual side effects instead of properly managing the greater health issues so that the sexual side affects are lessened.

I agree Lil, except when the two become a self-fulfilling prophesy. For example, I can't be sexually satisfied which depresses me, and when I am depressed, I can't be sexually satisfied. Do we have a doctor in the house? If you take out the effect, can you treat the cause?

Do you think as many as 40% of women suffer from this side effect?

I think 40% of women would fuck their husband til his head spun if he just scrubbed the bathtub

I agree that sex can ease depression and can understand why doctors treat symptoms, including sexual ones. For me though, the root cause is always the best place to start. I think that sexual dysfunction occurs but I think that if you treat the root cause it will be more effective than taking a pill to become arroused. One is a temporary fix and one is healing.

I think it is important to distinguish between a decreased or absent desire to orgasm and an inability to orgasm. For example, some medications take away your desire; some medications don't take away your desire but DO take away your ability to orgasm. If you are stressed out and/or depressed, you may suffer from a decreased desire. If you have diabetes, you may have the desire to come but not the ability to come because of a problem w/circulation to the area. So...in a nutshell, I think it is important to know exactly what the problem is and whether the way you're thinking of dealing w/it will actually eliminate the problem or whether it will only treat the symptoms, w/the cause still remaining. I hope that was clearer than mud!
