Non political, political question
I have a question for you all that is about politics, but without going into any side of politics. I work on political campaigns and this issue has been bugging me.
The sample:
You have a seat in the house or senate or whatever you call it. The balance of which is almost 50-50...You have an upcoming primary election within your party and you have two choices. One an almost guaranteed winner in the general election against the other party...BUT he/she holds almost none of your views but would his win would give you control of the house/senate. The other person holds all or most of your views but would have a hard uphill fight to win the general election....
Who would you vote for, the one that held your values or the one that might make some of your values come foward and voted on if that party controlled the house/senate???
Ok somebody sex me up and get me out of this thought...

Shit...a vote for my own views or a vote to further a greater good. Greater good.....I would hope.
But ask me again later...

but i should note...the greater good might not be served because if the person elected doesnt hold all your views they might not be brought up in the 1st place.
and yes cheyanne, i accept all interns on a trial run under my desk.

My assumption is that having "my " party with a majority would most likely make sure someone represented some of my ideals.

*rubbing my hands up and down your thighs in hopes that it counts as a vote for the "sexing you up" part!*
Hmmmm......really tough question......How long before the election? It's not unheard of for a darkhorse to pull it all in and win! I think it would depend on how much time is left before the election! I would probably choose right there in the booth after listening to the polls as I drove to cast my ballot!

Got my vote on the sexing up....but as for the last comment. I never ever do that, I consider that to be the worst thing I could do as a voter. But I am way too into politics and know whom I am going to vote for months and months in advance.

I have to agree with Lilith. Most of the time, in most places where I have lived, the people who really do hold all or most of my views never win; they are too much in the minority. Thus, I always vote in cases as you mention for the person representing "my" party, in hopes that if the result would be that "my" party would hold the majority in the House or Senate, I'd have a better chance of at least SOME of my views or values represented and "winning" when it comes to the members voting on particular issues. Better to have SOME of what I want get through Congress than most of what I DON'T want getting through Congress. Plus, I know that most of the time, even if a particular person's views don't represent most of mine but that person is a member of the party that usually DOES represent more of my views, that person is more likely to acquiesce and vote the way the other members of that party vote once he or she is elected (in other words, he or she will back their party). (I don't know if that is clear as mud....Sorry!)
