we've been together long enough now that the dominant type of crap is crap we've collected as a couple. it's not so much that the seperate-crap dwindled, just that the dual-crap grows.

Well, if you count my shoes, make-up, and haircare products then I guess I have way more crap. He has a ton more books than I do.
Actually, when we got together we had left behind almost everything we had owned and began from scratch. So it really is mostly our crap and we love it.

You don't realize just how much stuff you really have until you move. We had lived in our home for close to 20 years. Hubby, 2 daughters and me..... all pat-racks! We had 2 huge yard sales, donated to Big Sisters, a local Churchs yard sale, the Salvation Army, threw stuff out and STILL have 'stuff' stored in the basement of the new house.... Cause ya never know when ya might need it.

The bane of my existance, & the source of many arguments about which "junk" is mine & which is hers...further complicated by the fact that when we moved into my family home over a dozen years ago, we brought with us our 20 years worth of accumilated crap to be stacked beside, around, & even on top of the 45 years worth my depression-era packrat parents had stored up, because "you never know when we might need it again"...

I only keep the valuable items I'll need some day. The only other thing I want is a way to find it.

Sadly, my parents' credo has proven painfully correct, in that the surest way to find a use for something I've saved seems to be to toss it out when I get tired of looking at it...
