I started with very short periods in controlled areas (the spare bedroom) where I would open the door and let the established cat explore. When the hissing and fighting got bad, I'd seperate. The timespans kept getting longer to where I could trust them for a full day alone ... then I realized it was the kitten that was driving my allergies batty and had to give her up Everything I read recommended seperate spaces and slow introductions. One website recommended keeping feeding bowls on opposite sides of a closed door as a means to introduction with the door as the barrier.
