If it's of any use, over here in England it's pretty much common practice not to have it done, unless for religious reasons, and I don't see a great number of men having it done in adulthood, so I really don't think it's necessary in most cases on the grounds of health. I have to say, personally I find it a little freaky that we choose to mess with nature like this. But then again I don't believe in piercing babies' ears either, so perhaps I'm a bit of a puritan about things like this.
