I've made friends through various sites, message boards, etc online. I've been hurt by letting people in before getting to know them enough, but that is a part of any relationship. The only significant difference I see between the "real world" development of relationships and online is that manipulations and deceits are easier to pull off online, with individuals portraying themselves as someone other than who they actually are or hiding information from me.
