I don't mind either, 1st or 3rd, however, I have noticed that a HUGE amount of people who write in 1st mess up tenses a lot. Very rarely are books written in 1st person. When it comes to tenses, I usually write in past, using 3rd person.

There's nothing worse in my mind, than wretched grammar and messed up tenses and POV in a story. I have started reading stories that have a great plot, and stopped reading them when 1 paragraph is in present tense, 1st person, and the next is in past tense, 1st person, and the following one is in present tense, 3rd person.

I think that for the average joe who decides to write a story, it's the most common of errors, and the least likely to be caught when you're writing.

It's a good idea to have a proof reader, or even 2 or 3, who can read through it for you, and mark down any errors you have, then send it back to fix before posting.

Sure, this isn't a publisher's haven, but when writing, it's a good idea to still follow good grammar and keeping it in 1 tense, and 1 POV.
