This is so freakin' cool!
The BASS STATION
Two NYU students turned an old school ghetto blaster into a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot/mp3 player. The duo, Ahmi Wolf and Mark Argo modified the boom box, taking out the tuner and tape deck and replacing it with an mini-ATX motherboard running an 800Mhz processor, 256MB SDRAM, a 30GB HDD, and a 802.11b wireless network card. The sound is driven through the original amp and speakers of the Lasonic TRC-931. Peopple within range of the Bass-Station will be able to browse the playlists, upload their own music, and even move their favorite song to the top. Wolf and Argo also see this as a chance to observe how people will interact in such an environment and will allow the observer to discover things that you would never learn by talking to any one member of that community.
Personally, I just think the Bass-Station kicks ass!
