When I had a Linux box I could open an SSH tunnel from work to home and surf the web via my work browser re-directed to use the secure connection (no evesdropping by the IT department).
Now I use a VPN to leave the machine at home connected and then open a remote desktop connection to the machine back home from the office. The data is encrypted so the packets are just the in from my screen and I use the browser at home to surf to sites that I might not want to the company to see traces of me surfing (Pixies on the rare occasion).
Usually I just wait till I get home... but in this case I am dialed back in from a road trip to the home PC (kind of my personal ISP ).
