All that scientific mumbo jumbo aside I do recall something about blood in the yolk of an egg being a superstition with good, positive connotations, not bad ones.

That "tipping your forelock to a raven" I believe was supposed to be "Remember to tip a forlock to a raven".....kind of like tipping a waitress I think.
