I have no idea why there is the law about mincepies (presumably something to do with the symbolism of them) but I can probably explain mincemeat better than Fussy can:

It's a mixture of dried fruit (sultanas, raisins, currents, peel etc) usually mixed with finely chopped nuts (almonds, walnuts etc) and with suet (not sure if that's a typically english thing - it's a kind of fat we use for things like dumplings etc). It's seasoned with spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg etc and soaked in brandy until it absorbs all the alcohol. It's best to make it way in advance of eating it, to allow the flavours to develop and it's traditionally served in just slightly bigger than bite size pastry cases (i.e. mincepies)

Oh and Fussy probably hates it! LMAO
