Velcro was invented by Georges de Mestral in 1948 - patented 1957, a Swiss engineer...not sure where Canada comes into that one either...but feel free to enlighten me *L*
There are actually two people who invented the zipper. The first person (Whitcomb Judson) originally invented it, but it was patented by a Canadian. Gideon Sundback (the president of the Lightning Fastener Company) perfected the zipper and was given credit making zippers a common trend.
