I eat books.
I grew up on SF, fantasy, and comics. I still love them all and read them heavily, but I have branched out considerably. Recently I started on a mystery kick. I just finished 4 mysteries by Carl Hiassen (Double Whammy, Tourist Season, Basket Case and Lucky You.) I liked them all but I noticed all have some common threads. The protagonist always is a current or former newspaper employee (1 ex-photographer, 1 ex-reporter, and 2 reporters in varying states of disgrace). At least 3 serious eye injuries (we are talking candidates for Sammy Davis Jr.-hood), and 2 very disturbing instances of animal attack that result in the injured party carrying along the animal carcass (or pieces thereof) ivoluntarily. (The dog's head scene must be read to be believed.) Highly recomended if you enjoy humorous crime fiction. I also just finished Killer Stuff by Sharon Fiffer about an antique hunter who stumbles upon and solves crimes. Nicely done, with a light touch. Not terrific, but the preview of the next book Dead Guy's Stuff makes me want to pick up when it comes out in paperback.
Currently I am half-way through The Hearse You Came In On by Tim Cockey. Another light mystery with an undertaker moonlighting as a sleuth. So far so good.
Next up, <The
