Well, from a standpoint of polyamory, I can answer this question, if it is slightly re-phrased:

Why is it hurtful for the one you love to violate whatever boundries (explicit or implied) you have agreed to?

The answer overall, seem to be this: it's a violation of trust. That sort of violation, whether sexual, social, economic, or legal is always hurtful.
