I was especially pleased with Canada's Thanksgiving this year. Understand that I am technically a consultant and supposedly part time for the small company I work for. Well, after 12 years, I am a little more involved than I want to be now but they treat me well. Last week I made a point to casually bring up our holiday schedule with the owner and after some general comments, made the distinct statement that "all I care is that I'm off Thanksgiving with pay".

"Of course. You're salaried, so you're not effected." was the answer.

Thursday I leave the plant at the end of my 'normal' work week. Seventeen hours later I'm setting with Pixies as I my boss. "John, are you at your desk? ….. Recall our conversation about holidays on Tuesday? ….. Look at your calendar. I'm in Halifax, Nova Scotia for Canada's Thanksgiving weekend. I'll see you Tuesday." ……………….. Yes I really am."
