If you're not playing new world marsupial with me again, Tupperware was the first high quality (and over priced) plastic food storage containers around in America back in the 50's. The primary selling/distribution method was/is a pyramid type program of housewives selling to everybody they knew at "parties" in their homes.

Kind of a door-to-door sales force where you go to their door down the street to somebody you 'know'. There are a ton of different products from "Amway" household cleaning products, cosmetics from "Mary Kay", to adult toys sold that way now. It's become slang for any private person peddling something at gatherings in their homes.
