they certainly exist. there are christian domestic discipline homes, based on some teachings of the bible. they’re described as relationships where the husband loves the wife enough to teach and guide her, and the wife loves the husband enough to follow his leadership. spanking is used as negative reinforcement punishment. and there are secular “heads of households”, where one spouse takes on the leadership role and employs the same technique.
these are not partnerships, which is what a marriage - or any other form of long-term commitment - means to me. they are a form of submission outside the bedroom, a tacit agreement that one partner is never mentally fit or intrinsically trustworthy enough to make sound decisions for themselves or any other member of the home, nor are they fit to make household decisions. that physical punishment (as opposed to mutual discussion) is the only path.
you would never find me in this sort of relationship - spanking or no spanking, or just downright autocracy. i have just as much of a say about what goes on in this home as does my husband. if we can’t agree, we try to compromise.
