For me, I think that a place of significance can be just as important as a place of romance. I proposed in our favorite restaurant, a sushi place called Taki. It's an exceptional place and costs a bit, but the food is so good and the service so excellent, the ambiance so spot on that we scroung our money and go once a month. Our 5th anniversary was coming around, and I made that our excuse for going. The folk there really made it special for us, helped me plan out the surprise and everything.

But it was really special mostly because that was 'our place'. So even if it's not anywhere particularly fancy, if it's a special place for the two of you, that just makes the moment all the more memerable.
