WE both felt the same about "Michael" becoming "Mickey" even though we had no problem with "Mike". We were serious and insistent for the first year, then again when he started school and having outside friends. It became something that he nor anyone else identified him with and never was used. (Although his sister gave him a couple nicknames that has stuck somewhat and used in in the family.  )
