How about two sets of high capacity NIMH rechargeables and a good charger? That is some money to invest, but you won´t have to care more for buying batteries for a looong time.
I have a battery driven milk mixer that seems to run better with rechargeables than with cheap standard batteries (for the higher current they perform).
