Sex no worse for the heart than walking upstairs

Men worried about heart attacks during energetic sex sessions are being reassured they are at no more risk than when climbing stairs.

Scientists at the 14th French National Cardiology Forum in Paris were told the risks of a heart attack during sex had been overstated.

Richard Stein, a US cardiologist, told the forum sex was no more strenuous for the heart than walking up a flight of stairs.

Past studies had indicated men worried about heart conditions should treat sex with caution. Many avoided it altogether.

But the congress heard even a rampant sex session puts little strain on the heart.

The scientists added the length of time spent making love was irrelevant, and anybody who can make it up the stairs to the bedroom should be quite safe to have sex once they get there.
