I have always wondered why bisexuality is "more acepted" in women than men. Men are weird, so who knows for sure...
But remember, "more accepted" is a relative thing...
I think that Oldfart (kiss) and txgrneyes (kiss and a feel) are right as far as they go, but there is a lot more to it.
This is a male dominated world, so like it or not, they make the rules.
I think in men's eyes bisexual women = women who really like sex = slut.
Slut means "available" sexually to men.
Lesbian women are not sexually available to men, and believe me they get seriously harassed and maltreated because of this.
I have had phases in my life when I lived and loved as a lesbian rather than as a bi woman. The differences in how I was seen and teated by people, mostly men, men I had known for a long time, was really disturbing to me.

By the way Oldfart, I think the atitude toward bi men isn't just about disease, (though frankly I don't have sex with bi men for that very reason.) Historically bi woman have been more acepted than bi men for a very long time. In Rome, bisexual men were looked at as weaker, and were not considered of importance until they had married and fathered a child, (preferably a son, of course) while women were expected to enjoy the "company" of other women.
Goodness, even Sappho was supposed to be bi rather than strictly a lesbian!
Some of this acceptance of bi women has to do with men and their bloodlines, I think.
Woman with woman (WTW) = no children, so all offspring are those of the man, and the bloodline is secure.
Remember, it wasn't that long ago that women could not inherit their father's or even their husband's property, so a male heir was a important.
