I think that's the way conversation flows......it's unnatural to stop it. Plus sometimes, someone posts a thread, seemingly about one thing, say (as a purely random example, you understand) about how litigious our society is becoming these days, and it turns out in fact to be an issue about how someone can't talk to members of the opposite sex, but you have to dig a little deeper and let the thread go off topic a little bit in order to get to the heart of it.

Plus, I think it's good to hi-jack a thread or at least interject with a few lighter posts when things are becoming a little heated, just to diffuse matters a wee bit sometimes.
