You don't need a tree to have a treehouse. I've seen yards with nice trees that a treehouse could be built around. Use posts like I did on the this one.

A gal I used to date had a rustic treehouse out in the woods. Basically a platform with a canvas "tent" on top. there were aluminum combination storm windows on the sides. The glass could be slid up to vent. The screens kept the biting creatures out.

It was so wonderful to be there during a little wind. the tree would sway. Making love there was really fun too. Someday I'll have a treehouse of mine own where I can bring Pixies for some fun.
