I miss you

I miss old friends.

How do you deal with losing friends or lovers and still having to see them in social situations?

It can be so dang awkward.....
and it doesn't seem to get easier with time.

I was totally in love with a girl about 18 years ago and she was just too young and not ready to have anyone worship her. She sent flowers and gifts back and broke my heart.

But her best friend read the love letters with her, and I kindly escorted said friend to the outhouse one night 2 years later one dark summer night on a rafting trip.

I've been married to her now for 16 years, and we are still very close friends to my original crush. She too is married with two kids. Everything is so cool. She still reminds me why I fell in love with her, but it doesn't hurt to see her or to not see her anymore.

Look them in the eye, smile, and continue on to some other adventure.

What a sweet story...and good advice too.

Thankyou. :)

You can always think of the highlights of why you were friends or lovers. Bring a smile to your face and try to add more people to that list.

I have been married for 12 years and had the same best friend for 17 years. I don't really run into any old flames or friends.

It has been my general experience that for the most part, time proves that I should be thankful for unanswered prayers...

Don't get me wrong, there is a man (or 2) from my past that I often wonder what could have been.. and in the deepest parts of my heart I believe that it should have been... but it wasn't... and the more time that goes by.. the easier it is to accept. Doesn't mean tho that when those thoughts do go thru me that I don't get "misty".... but now it is bitter-sweet..

A few months back I was hurting really badly over someone. It was a real 'What if things had been different?' scenario and someone said to me:

'When you come back from a holiday and someone asks you how it was, you don't say 'Terrible because it didn't last forever' you say 'It was great but it's over now and I'm looking forward to the next one.' The same is true of relationships, enjoy the happy memories and try not to be too sad that it didn't go on for longer.'

I'd never thought of it in those terms before and it helped. :)

But then again you can be reasonably sure there's another holiday somewhere in your future (although airplane fares are up this year). It can be hard to keep a positive attitude about future relationships, since you (I) never know when (or even if) the next woman will enter your life. Same deal with friends really. I guess I just worry too much. Maybe I should have written this when I was in a better mood...

P.S. I haven't posted much here on Pixie's but I've followed many of your discussions and look forward to posting more in the future. But I think I'll wait till my mood improves. For your sake :) negativity is very dangerous.

if i had stayed there i wouldn't be here. i show the best angle on here and try to help them do the same. if i was better off before then why'd it end. answer it wasn't better. faith and hard work make tomorrows rosier than yesterday.

RandyGal 12-02-2002 03:45 PM

dzbuster, you couldn't be more right ON with that last line...especially the faith part.

mighty hard to get thru a today without a slight bit of faith that tomorrow will be brighter! :)

my mama taught me to have faith in my future.
she also tried to teach me patience, which didn't work out so well. LOL

Randygal

I know it's tough, life has many "if's" and "but's", you need the low points, just to measure the high points..And the high points are kinda quick but so's life and who want a shag that went on for 60 years?

It always gets better..

Yep...almost a month after writing the first anguished post about missing old friends it is better indeed.

Got to love the telephone. All it takes is one swift call to re-connect what you thought was gone forever. :)
