But the thread is about oral sex. I'm currently reading a novel by James Herbert called "Once..." (good read if anyone cares) and in this tale his hero has encounters with good and evil.

These couplings got me thinking about something. Now, I'm only half way through the book but the 'evil' character goes down on the guy but the 'good' character doesn't. I couldn't help but wonder whether Herbert deems oral sex to be "dirty" hence only the evil character performs BJs.

Interesting. What do people think?

PS - Is anyone else out there obsessed with Shakira's butt? (particularly when she shakes it!!)

OK, maybe I should have made myself more clear. Do people find oral dirty? Empowering? Do it because they like it? Do it because their partner likes it?

Yes oral is taboo in some circles or to some people.....but things don't change overnight.....but i think things are changing....slowly

OK I use to think it was something only "bad girls" did when I was young (extremely prudish upbringing). I have no clue exactly why I was left with this impression..... Thank God I learned dif real quick.:p I have been surpised to find tht more young people seem to be participating in oral sex and abstaining from intercourse. I have heard them say that it keeps them virgins.... then wouldn't that make oral sex a trait of a "good" character? I think some negative ideas about oral must come from the old adage that if it feels that good it must be wrong.:D

First,there is the "the penis or vagina is dirty" belief.
Then there is the belief of oral sex as being bad or evil or sinful that comes from the bible.
The "religions of the book", Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all have this.
There is a Christian fundamentalist belief that any "homosexual" act, (such as oral sex) even between a woman and her husband(!) is sinful. The story of sodom and gomorrah, and the story of Onan and"spilling seed" has been used to say that we are not supposed to have any sex that is not for reproduction!
I am the victim of a Catholic Girls" School, and have read the bible and found only one mention of female masturbation "the Harlot of Jerusalem" in ezekial 16:17, which sounds a lot like use of a dildo by a woman on herself, and the ONLY mention of oral sex I have ever found is in the "song of songs" or "Song of Solomon"
We have a very messed up culture, sexually.
Here in the USA we fired our Surgeon General because she suggested teaching teens that masturbation might be better than sleeping around and getting pregant or catching a disease.
I looked up all this information once when I made a presentation to my supervisor about teaching safer sex to teens.
They said no!
All we can teach is that they should abstain from any sex at all!

This I why I sometimes think of quiting nursing, and often go home and cry myself to sleep.
