Memorial Day
MEMORIAL DAY
Ron Swolley (I had called this Veteran's Day, but it ended up being more of a Memorial Day poem, so, I've renamed it. Maybe I'll write a Veteran's Day poem to go along with it. ) Standing on the hillside, Head bowed in silent prayer, A young man looks across the field, He couldn’t help but stare. Into the distance stood, An army dressed in white, Standing at attention, It was an awesome sight. The rows and rows of silent troops, Stood rigid with eyes closed. Not a one did move As the bugle's sound arose. The clouds ceased their endless journey, And paused with true respect For the brave and loyal soldiers Who gave their lives in death. Dear Lord, I pray You hear us, As we sing our hymns to You, And take these soldiers home To Your kingdom in the blue. They sacrificed Your gift of life, To help set others free, And now we ask for their salvation And heavenly peace with Thee. |
