PF ... You'll Especially Enjoy This

The world's tiniest 12-cylinder engine being assembled on video.

http://www.wimp.com/tiniestengine/

(While a little bit long 9+ minutes .... it's absolutely amazing and the man who built it is a fantastic craftsman. The engine even runs!

DB thank you great vid!

A couple of years ago I got to go to a model engine show the craftsmenship and love they put into them is fantastic!

Amazing!

Oldfart 11-26-2011 06:36 AM

Cool.

I'd hate to have to do a head gasket job on that little thing. 6 piece heads? This also may be a stupid question, but how does the guy keep the engine from locking up with no oil in it? I noticed he put a small amount of oil on some of the pieces to lube them, but there isn't an oil pan or filter to keep everything lubricated properly.

PF must be away or something. Thought sure he'd see this.

Oldfart 11-28-2011 07:01 AM

Didn't he mention taking a dog for a drive?

dicksbro 11-29-2011 03:31 AM

Was he taking the dog for a drive or teaching a dog to drive?

LOL Pup patrolling ended last week and was a bit more task this go-round because of other demands but we both fore filled our purpose for being. ;)

I did catch this DB, and with a lot of interest. :D It deserved more than one viewing for sure. Truly a feat! I would have loved to see some of the mill work that required. And a true old time craftsmen, using straight vernier calipers. :) Sub assemblies and final done with tweezers is definitely not the easy way. :yikes: The rocker arm assemblies are more intricate than even the crank and piston assemblies.

Like LS, I'm uncertain if it is an operating combustion engine but all the functioning principle parts are there and anything with 1,210 moving parts that can be held in your fist is truly astonishing. I'd love to just see the drawings for that. :wobbly:

A petrol-head watchmaker.

PantyFanatic 11-29-2011 10:50 AM

or is it a watchmaking petrol-head (motor head)? ;)

Oldfart 11-29-2011 10:19 PM

Which takes more precision? Watchmaker methinks.

OF, do you think PF would go ahead and make us each one for Christmas? He's still got time if he starts today. :)

Oldfart 12-01-2011 08:25 AM

Without doubt he will.

Pixies logo and all.

PantyFanatic 12-01-2011 10:52 AM

Sure thing :thumb:

And I'll even let you know which Christmas I'll be finished.
