Wild water & such
Last Friday, I went out with an ex-girlfriend of mine to get pictures of the Potomac River & C&O Canal at flood stage. (Oh, these are too large for actuall attachments, so I'll post links to the pics on Photobucket.) The results:
The canal, with one of the locks closed: http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/...2011/Lock20.jpg And a (closed) observation deck, with the waters nearly up to the edge: http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/...rvationDeck.jpg http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/...FloodedDeck.jpg And in the calmer waters of the canal, some ducks: http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/...ucksCloseUp.jpg And further down the canal: http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/...1/CliffTree.jpg |
Somewhat upriver, at a narrows point:
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/...11/Narrows2.jpg Further downstream, with high water: http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/...1/WaterRage.jpg The bridge to one of the observation islands in the narrows was closed, and here's why: http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/...UndertheLog.jpg But further downstream, the river widens into a gorge: http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/...s2011/Gorge.jpg And then at sunset, I got a cloudscape pic or two: http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/.../Cloudscape.jpg |
Plenty of pics I didn't post here, but if you want to see, the link to the album ingeneral:

Oh, sorry, no topless pics of the ex-girlfriend. I mean, I tried to talk her into it, but...
|
Damn, talk harder next time please GG.
How old is that wooden lock set? |
Great pictures , except for the topless one we didn't get. :(

The C&O Canal is a great hiking trail. :thumb:

185 miles is more than a great hike.

The Scout troup I mentor has done the C&O twice during my tenure, and my daughter cycled it with her Girl Scout Troop a few years ago. Taking nothing away from those who prefer to enjoy it in other ways, the C&O is indeed a great hike. :) |

http://www.nps.gov/choh/historyculture/places.htm The C&O canal was built in teh 1800's: "most" of the equipment is original, although I cna't tell offhand if that particular lock set is. |
