Our baby ducks are gone!
 

Went out this morning and it looks like an animal got into our ducks nest and destroyed all but about two of her thirteen eggs. Don't know if mama will come back for those two or not.

Nature is sooooo harsh. Sorry DB.

Standard behavior pattern is to return, save what she can. Animal don't alway follow predictable patterns, though.

If she's not back with the eggs now, their survival chances are zero.

Sorry to hear your raccoon population is going to be so healthy. :( I hope the two don't make fat cats if they hatch. I guess that's why each duck needs to lay 13 eggs.

Haven't seen mama back and so I guess she's abandoned even the one that looks okay. It's been so cool at night, I suspect that little duckling is gone too. I know that animals (including people) do take lives of other animals to eat ... but we were just a bit excited at the prospect of seeing her brood hatch. Just hope the mom is okay.

Tess, we were looking forward to taking pictures of the family, too.
