I hope hey made it Friday
If the whole weekend counts, I DID finish by Thanksgiving. :line:
After watching the news coverage/hype and getting one firsthand intelligence report of Friday morning, I vowed not to leave the house until Monday. Yesterday I was told the world momentarily regained sanity with the roads and stores not even up to normal weekend traffic. Very skeptically, I called and got conformation. Late yesterday I made a cautious dash to the supermarket to find no waiting at the deli counter as expected the days AFTER Thanksgiving. :D I very reluctantly and slowly approached a shopping area like the apes at the opening in "2001 Space Odyssey" approaching the obelisk. :thumb: There were check-outs with clerks looking up the isle for customer that might enter their lane. After crossing 4 things off, I stared at the last two items on my list. I checked my fuel gage for a near full tank incase I had to quickly swerve off course onto a avoidance detour, recounted my cash and wrapped it in the freshly printed exchange rate sheet for pesos and kanuck$, laid in a GPS course to approach the 'MALL' from the back truck entrance road and made sure I had a full magazine. After sliding up a deceivingly empty ramp I merged into light traffic that allowed me to pass cars in the middle lane of the freeway. :yikes: I got off the freeway one exit early and found the road that lets me sneak in the back way and rounded the corner of my target, Target. I slammed on the brakes and rechecked my position to find the very sparsely populated lot was in fact the parking area. After slowly cruising the entire perimeter I headed on a glide path towards the doors. I pulled into a row of cars and was able to creep straight ahead to the next row and stopped the car, nose out, in case the need for a quick escape. I was within 150 ft. of the doors. :faint: Looking through the glass I could not see the clusters of people and had two leaving and one other person that just charged through the doors without checking ahead.:yikes: I watched her advance unmolested until she was out of sight. After a few seconds I went through the portal and saw as many clerks and sales people milling about as customers. I showed a smock wearing young lady my list of two items and she was able to give me headings right to the departments. Quickly moving in only a slight zig-zag pattern, I was there, found the items on the front of the shelf and was to the checkout with only one person in front of me. :D Out the door without incident and I'M FINISHED! :line: I hope they made their $$$ on Firday because it didn't look like they were doing it Sunday. So are you a person who doesn't care for the crushing mobs of Madison Avenue Zombies, or one that enjoys the hustle & bustle of the season shopping and door-busting excitement? |
I do my shopping during the dead hours in the middle of the day in the middle of the week or during the extremely dead hours of the very late night. I hate crowds. I want in, the stuff I'm seeking, and out as quick and painless as possible. That and I had to work Friday-Sunday.

I wonder how much more of the Thanksgiving Weekend spend has moved online?

themi01,
Yessir. Shall do. |
The only shopping I ever do on Black Friday is another run to the local grocery stores for more supplies for the con suite I run forthe Darkover s/f con. Otherwise, I'm working my non-existant ass off for the convention. I couldn't ever judge the amount of whacko shopping rush, or lack thereof.

I anxiously ventured out to wallyworld on Friday, just to pick up a deal on a Sony widescreen the wife wanted. Crowds were heavy, but not terribly out of control, yet still I felt like peeps were just trying to block me out of Electronics. I finally wormed my way there, no display model out, saw boxes of the next 2 sizes up from what we wanted but not the 32", saw no "helpful associates" to find out if any more were hidden in the back, said "screw this" & headed home to recover from my agoraphobia. Went online & ordered it "ship to store", now it's a waiting game. I'll still have to fight the crowds to pick it up, but it'll be mineminemine!

After a hectic and chaotic Black Friday, things have calmed down here some although the stores still seem to be pretty busy. Did just a little bit of shopping yesterday and it wasn't too bad. Not all the registers were open, but the ones that were seemed to have a fair number of people shopping.
I do hope the season will be good for retailers. Especially the small, local shops that depend so heavily on holiday shopping. :wish: |
I saw the crowds from the other side. Went to work at midnight for Black Friday. We had people lined up outside when we opened. When I got off at 9am it was bedtime.

Yeah, my daughter worked the 0400-1300 shift on black Friday. She survived, but I'm not real sure how.

That is the first time in all our years that you mentioned a daughter. Wow. |
It just takes a little longer for a lizard to warm up.

Only seven and a half years. Not bad for a Northern Hemisphere reptile.
