I'm curious?
My wife & I are basically on a fixed income now,so this got me to wondering.
Do you women tip your hairdresser for a haircut & if so,how much usually? My wife cuts my hair & has for yrs,but the other day she asked me for some money for a tip for her haircut & I never thought of this before.By the way, she has her own money but hadn't gotten it from the bank yet.Besides.when you've been married for as long as we have(43yrs),it all comes from the same place anyway! Irish  |
Yes I tip my hairdresser just as I do anyone who provides some type of personal service like a nail technician or and massage therapist.

I don't know about a "hairdresser", but I tip my barber just as Lil said. A waitress, skycap, cabby, barkeep, .....anybody that isn't selling me something gets a tip. And there is no such thing as a $1 tip any more.

Irish,
Yessir! As PantyFanatic said; the service staff get tipped. |
Oh noy when i get to finally come to the US to visit i'm sure i'm gonna be in poo.
If someone held there hand out i'd shake it and prolly say ta and bye *LOL* Having to tip is just Sooooooo alien to me |
Yes, it's only that we have cute accents that keeps us from being necklaced.
I object to gratuities automatically placed on a bill. |
I tip my hairdresser very well because she does such a great job and is so worth it. Same for the young man who does my nails.

Irish-
It depends on what I am having done and the cost of it in general. If I get my hair washed and cut I usually tip $6.00 ( I only maintain the length so they dont do much. The cut itself is only like $15-$20. Getting a full set of fake nails on is usually $30- so I tip 7.00 ( bk when I did it) To maintain them its about 20- so i tip 5.00 / 6.00 I always tip a min on 20% on resturants- unless the waitress/waiter was horrible- even then I still do 15% Hope this helps. As stated, I have no problem tipping but I am with you there. I will be the one that decides what the tip should be. Not sure they know it, but they cheat themselves when they decide for me. I hope I never feel truly slighted when the gratuity is added by them because we WILL talk about it. |
I'm with Orli and Oldfart, tipping is kinda alien where I am although I do tip in restaurants. I never understood why people still tip a large percentage if the service has been atrocious, and I won't tip extra if it's already included on the bill.
When I've visited the USA in the past, I have taken great pains to tip correctly so as not to offend. When in Rome etc. |
I get a cut with coloring, (I went blond) every 3 weeks, and every 6 weeks a waxing. I tip well for a good, careful, attentive, friendly experience.

THANKS!I agree with just about everyone,but I don't agree with a gratuity
included in the bill.I would be a ONE time customer & management would be told exactly why! When my daughters were very young, they were very well behaved in restaurants. My folks drove up to visit, when I was in the service. They took us out to eat & the waiter was very standoffish because our kids were with us.I don't think that I've ever seen my father so mad!He was a very good tipper but I doubt if that waiter got much if anything. Irish :banghead: |
Specifically talking about barbers, I usually tip my at Christmas but not every month when I get a haircut. I do tip when I go out to eat or bellhops and such when I've stayed at hotels. Also, cab drivers when I've used their services in a city. That was more common before I retired and made several business trips a year.
