Pixies: Year in Review

Just thinking back on all of 2006 and was wondering what the highlights and lowlights were in your lives, here at Pixies, and in the world. What say you...

Steph 12-28-2006 11:21 AM

Off the top of my head, I'm going to say PAGAN was a highlight. Getting to meet BIBI, sdls, Boog, DB (& wife), Scarecrow (& wife) & OF (& wife) was awesome!

Am I forgetting someone? :D

scotzoidman 12-28-2006 12:08 PM

I would say the highlight of my year was finally getting onto more solid ground financially, after years of digging myself into the hole...

PantyFanatic 12-28-2006 12:46 PM

The highlight of 2006 was also PAGAN for me. :loveshowe Meeting all the super Pixies was definitely a very special treat. :)

..... And the lowlight of this millennia also came at PAGAN. They let Steph in. :banghead:

Spooky, you are!

Believe it or not, I was in the middle of writing what follows when I logged in tonight....so, if you'll pardon the multiude of wordage, here's my take on 2006....

2006 – A Personal Take

It’s been very much an up-and-down year for me; one year to the day since I had my last cigarette, and I don’t know how I’ve managed to stay off them with some of the stuff that’s happened!! Still, I guess it’s much the same as the year some of you guys have had……………

………2006 started off quite depressing – one of my long-term clients (for those who don’t know, I work as a Community Psychiatric Nurse in Glasgow, Scotland) had been diagnosed with lung cancer in October 2005, and I visited him nearly every day until he died in March. A very sad time for me, and all my colleagues, who had known him for many years. We did our best to support his family, too, but you know there’s only so much you can do as a relative “outsider”.

April, we decided (for SOME reason!!) to get a puppy. Now, H has this “thing” about not having just one of anything; so, we got two! - Bodie, a collie/huntaway cross and Riley, a Springer/cocker spaniel cross. Yeah, go figure!! Anyway, here we are nearly at Bodies 1st birthday (Hogmanay, or the 31st to you lot over the water!!) and they’ve grown into the two most loving and giving dogs I’ve ever had! Strangely, they go nuts when I take them to my mums – they must really like the cigarette-smoke atmosphere or something!

Ah yes – my mum. Well, as a lot of you will remember, my dad was also diagnosed with lung cancer at the end of April, beginning of May. The prognosis at the time was not good, but in the end he lived for only a matter of weeks. The support and good wishes I received from many Pixies folk at that time was amazing – and one couple in particular, who I’ll talk more of later! But, to TinTennessee, Lixy, Txgrneyes, Steph and many more……. the expressions of love and support from all of you was tremendously helpful to me. I can only apologise if I missed anyone out.

The rest of my year has been pretty much uneventful. Like I said near the beginning, it’s one year today since my last puff of the dreaded weed and, God willing, it will continue thus for many years to come!

Oh……… the other person I wanted to tell you about. Well, he and his wife sent my dad the most amazing Get Well cards when he was in hospital, most made by small children the lady of the combination looks after, and receiving these from so far away really did brighten his life. They have also sent cards and gifts to me personally, and have been a tower of strength and support to me throughout the year. There’s other stuff too, but that’ll do for now.

I speak, of course, of Mr and Mrs Dicksbro….. two of the most amazing people I’ve ever not met!!

Dicksbro….. God Bless You, and all your family, and my love and heartfelt thanks to all of you.

DM

Not wanting to sound like a broken record, but PAGAN '06 was a real high light to the year.

P.S. dm383, I had the honor to meet Mr. and Mrs. Dicksbro at PAGAN '06 and they are delight full people to know.

dicksbro 12-28-2006 08:32 PM

You guys are making me blush. Seriously, I have to say PAGAN was the highlight of our year as well. Niagara Falls was nice, but the Pixies we met were even better. There are still more Pixies we hope we'll one day get to meet, but meeting PF, Steph, BIBI, sodaklostsoul, Boog, Mr. & Mrs. Scarecrow & Mr. & Mrs. OF was even better than the falls. The OF's were a special delight since we got to spend almost all of Friday together with them. What a neat, neat couple.

DM, I truly hope somehow, someday, someway ... we do get to meet. It's truly been an honor and privilege to know you. The kids are still in the prayer business and have several folks they're praying for now. I think that's one of the neatest things in the world and gives the kids something very positive to remember about their young lives.

I still hope that we'll get to see IAKG again and meet a number of Pixies that we love dearly. Hopefully, that time will come. Who knows, maybe the next PAGAN.

Lots of lowlights in my year that I won't get into. Mostly health stuff or problems that branched out because of medical expenses, etc......

Could've been a better year but it was better than I was told it would probably be by some of my doctors back this time in '05.

You know, the highlight of my year actually was getting more involved here at Pixies over these last couple of months. I haven't got to meet a lot of you (none in person) but I can tell that I am among friends even if I don't know all of you.

I've developed a couple of friendships and have come to care a great deal for those Pixies in a short amount of time. They are very dear people to me. Hopefully I'll be able to continue to grow those relationships and start up some new ones as the year moves along. I'd love to be able to meet some of my new Pixie friends in person and am really planning on doing that as soon as I can.

I'm hoping that my 2007 holds all sorts of ideas for smut games answers, maybe meeting a few of you kind people in real life, a Cubs World Series Championship (hey, it's gotta happen sooner or later!) and that come this time next year I'll be sitting here or somewhere else typing some highlights of my year.

A special Pixie told me that a man isn't judged by the number of breaths he takes but by what he accomplishes during the time he's taken those breaths. Well, I'm planning on accomplishing lots more things and one of those things is to meet that special person face to face to thank her for that inspiration. I've had similar sentiments conveyed to me from my other special Pixie friends and I plan on thanking them in person this year as well. I really do.

You people are all great and whether you realize it or not, you've been a very big part in keeping me going the past couple of months. I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart.

Great thread Lil!

Wow, where to start. This has hands-down been the most incredible year of my life! After going through a divorce that was very difficult for everyone, my daughter and I moved to Georgia on my 40th birthday last March to be with my Joe. He is the most incredible man I have ever known and the fact that he loves me fills me with gratitude every single day!

I also stopped smoking after having that nasty habit for 23 years. I got my GED and enrolled in college. In my first quarter of school I made all A's, which proved to me that I really could be as good as other people.

My daughter is thriving and maturing faster than I'm ready for her to. I have awesome friends, both online and in person. I now go and do things I never would have imagined doing. I discovered the joy of Starbucks this year!!

What makes me sad is that I have yet to become a PAGAN. :( I really do want to meet so many of you in person that I have come to love since joining this wonderful board back in 2004.

Pixies are a very special type of people and I feel so honored to be a part of this community of pervs. :loveshowe

My trip to the States was truly a peak experience.I indulged my love of aircraft and my desire to meet (and in Lil's case, renew the friendship with) my favourite people.

I hope we have the readies to make the next PAGAN.

LixyChick 12-29-2006 05:28 AM

(((((dm)))))

Well, I missed PAGAN...so that counts as a lowlight!

Actually, this year hasn't been the greatest.

I catch myself thinking of my cat as if he's still here.

My sis is in a strange world and I doubt she'll ever be much better. My brother-in-law really is a rock!

Mr. Lixy is doing great now and I'm hoping his remission will last a long while! He had me pretty scared back in March/April!

But...I can look to 2007 and hope it'll be better for those around me and for myself as well!

dicksbro 12-29-2006 05:39 AM

(((( HUGS )))) Lixy.

You are, for sure, always in our thoughts and prayers.

You guys are two of the really special people we hope to meet one day. It'll happen, I just don't know when, yet. ;)

PAGAN was the big highlight!!!!! Met some awsome people!!!!!!
Hope to meet some new Pixies in *07* and reconnect with a few PAGAN's.

Being here with Booger is a big highlight too. Just wish we had more alone time once in awhile.

My daughter slowly finding the things she likes to do. Can't believe she's gonna be 10 in 3 months.

Had a pretty big low point when my mom had all her medical problems. Got pretty worried at one point that she would'nt pull thru, but she is doing well enough to finally go back home after 8 months.

My personal demons was a low point but I'm gonna work on getting rid of them.

And what about you Mistress Lilith? :)

Lilith 12-29-2006 08:43 AM

Thanks for asking SDLS.
Personal highlight- finally getting my own class after waiting so long to be a teacher
Personal lowlight- having to have the ginormous tumor removed and my son failing English while acing Latin

Pixies highlight- having Mr. and Mrs. Oldfart visit and baby FussyPucker
Pixies lowlight- less conversation, lack of more new active members

World highlight- for me the changes in the House and Senate
World lowlight- the war in Iraq, N. Korea, and Brittany Spears :p
