Transitions — James Brown

James Brown, the "Godfather of Soul", died this morning in Atlanta, Georgia. He was 73 years old.

He was justifiably famous for hits including “I Got You (I Feel Good)”, “Papa's Got a Brand New Bag” and “Living in America”. As a young man, before his rise to stardom, he was am member of a gospel group.

He overcame poverty and racism. He reminds me of the title of one of his greatest hits – “Say it Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud”.

There will never be another James Brown.

R.I.P. sir.

Oh boy, I hadn't heard of this one yet. That's definitely true, there will never be another James Brown.

I never listened to a lot of James Brown's music, perhaps it was just before my time. But I do know he was enormously influential to music in general, a wonderful performer, and a strong man who'd gone through a lot. May he rest in peace.

Anyone who enjoys any of the popular music formats of the last half century has heard JB, whether they know it or not. As the man himself said, "Disco is James Brown, hip-hop is James Brown, rap is James Brown; you know what I'm saying? You hear all the rappers, 90 percent of their music is me."
He was looking forward to doing a New Year's Eve show in spite of his illness.

"The Hardest Working Man In Show Business" has earned his rest...RIP, Mr Brown...

He was a TRUE artist, warts and all...and I swear he never aged a day in his life since I was a kid and first saw him! Always looked the same and was able to do splits and everything no matter what!

"Funky Drummer" still powers butts to this day. You'll be missed.

Rest in peace Mr Brown.

Good occasion to whip out that old classic "James Brown Is Dead" by LA Style ;) Anyone remember that?

But seriously, RIP Sex Machine.
