Yuck

Thanksgiving dinner, family all around being kind and loing towards one another, a giant bird sits at the head of the table and right in front of my mom's traditional seat always sat this jello salad made with orange or lime jello, shredded carrots and celery. :vomit:

Horrid, pputrid, nasty, vile looking shit. She ate the whole thing because my grandmother made it special just for her.

On your holiday table is there something that equals my family's jello salad? Something that just creeped you out?

I feel that way about the Green Bean casserole that every single American seems to love but me.

Oldfart 11-15-2006 10:44 PM

Anything with yoghurt or mushrooms.

Keeping with the jelly/o theme:

At Christmas my family raves about beetroot in blackcurrant jelly/o. I can't think of anything more disgusting....other than perhaps Brussels Sprouts and roasted Chestnuts.

Stuffing with liver or giblets :yikes:

The cranberry stuff out of the can -- but I love the salad type

When I was kid, there was my family always sitting around the table. Kinda creeped me out.

How can I top that^ :lol

Not something that turns me off, but I've been pointing out to my wife that we always end up bringing back a full bowl of her fruit salad concoction (mandarin oranges, strawberries, coconut, pecans, marshmallows, sour cream) because she & I are the only ones who ever even touch it the dinner table...she still seems to be in denial about it...

wyndhy 11-16-2006 10:18 AM

that ^^^ is my :vomit: :p:D

(sorry mr. and especially mrs. scotz)

My mom always had to have pickled herring and it never failed that the bowl with that crap in it would be sitting right next to the one with my apple rings.

The main thing I avoid from the Thanksgiving spread is the yams or sweet potatoes.

When I was growing up, my mom always made giblet gravy. She would boil the neck, heart, balls (lol), liver in water with salt & pepper ... then would cut it all up in small pieces... the neck meat was terrible to get off (shred) and then make a gravy out of it all. None of us kids liked it... this was my dad's favorite...

Then it was my turn to have Thanksgiving. I slaved over that gravy.. cut up all of the yukky stuff into small chuncks.. do you know how difficult it is to get all the stuff off turkey balls that have been boiled? Anyway... we all sat down to dinner.. prayers, etc.. dad loaded his plate, and made a hole in his whipped potatoes and then my dad looked up at me, then at the giblet gravy sitting in front of him, and then at my mom. He told her he loved her (which was rare for my dad to say that outloud) and then announced to everyone.

"I hate giblet gravy! Pass the jar stuff."

My mom just looked at him - replied that she loved him too.. and said ...

"I know."

ROFLMAO!!! After 30 years! He hated giblet gravy!!!!! And she knew!!
