an update on me

I'm not sure how many of you know considering PF loves to talk about anything...but I'm at Morehead State University now and i'm on my own, so far it's alright but I had to leave my love at home ( and no it wasn't my doggie) a fellow pixie and i are planning on getting married next June 2007, it's Moozillia_78. We are doing good with all the planning but it's kinda hard because we are paying for it ourselves, i don't want to put all that on my parents. If anyone has any ideas for favors that are personal for the wedding at under a $1 a piece it would be awsome considering all the brides books want you to spend like 6,000 on the reception alone.

But the point to this was just to let everyone know i'm still around and i do check in from time to time.

Good luck with the wedding and I hope you're having fun!

As for favors, two ideas:

Candles - Buy the little tea lights in the small glass votives (I've seen the combos you can buy in bulk for around $1) -- and print out (on transparent labels) your guests' name, the bride/groom name, and the date of the wedding. Affix to the tea candle. Makes a great gift/seat card.

Fans - Print out (or have printed) some pretty photo on cardstock -- trim the card into an oval (or have it printed on smaller squares of cardstock), affix a tongue depressor and you have a fan. Can even print the bride/groom name and the date if you want.

one thing we did was take some clear plastic spoons and place a couple of those hershey's hugs and a couple of hershey's kisses in them, wrapped them in colored cellophane and tied w/curly ribbon and attached a lil' note that said "a spoonful of hugs & kisses from the new bride & groom". umm...my stepmom ordered a bunch of our stuff from oriental trading company(they have a website, cant recall it tho) and it's bulk orders that are usually pretty cheap.

Buy packets of mixed flower seeds, for each of the guests to plant and watch your love grow. Ancient fertility magic. Buy in bulk and print the envelopes with all the details, including photo and names of the recipients.

do a search on ebay. I know plenty of people that have either ordered their favors in this manner or at least go their idea from ebay. Two that I saw quickly that I thought were neat ... 1) leather bookmark with a picture. 2) personalized CD with a photo on the face of the CD.

Personalized candies can be ordered through ebay as well.

Congratulations.

I just enjoyed my sisters wedding this past weekend. She made on teh computer matchbooks that said "Mint to be" with the wedding date and their names on them and stapled a mint in there instead of matches. It was so cute!

Have fun and enjoy it!

Congrats, DG! Wow! What terrific ideas for favors. If you have a Dollar Tree or DEALS in your area, you might check those stores out. Often have some really cute stuff for just $1. Best of luck and stay in touch.

Hiya DG and congrats on the upcoming nuptuials!

*hugs to you and Moozillia_78*

I know the fret of paying for your own wedding. Mr. Lixy and I did just that! We might have been a little better off monetarily...but with all we had to invite I had to skimp on some things to make the "more important" things shine brighter. One of the lesser things was the favors. With our tropical/beachy theme...I asked for discarded clam shells from a restaraunt before they disposed of them. I cleaned and bleached them myself. I included some mementos (personal to us) and tied them in toile and satin ribbons.

I made the centerpieces myself as well. In order not to offend anyone, I taped a piece of paper under the same amount of chairs as there were centerpieces and just before everyone started to leave I told those who had the paper under the chair to help themselves to a centerpiece. It was less complicated that way (ya know...my Aunt so-and-so wasn't insulted because I wanted his Aunt so-and-so to have the beautiful turquoise one...blahhhhhhh!). Of course...I kept the bridal table centerpiece.

Just remember this hun...IT'S YOUR DAY! Don't sweat the small things! Try and remember everything that happens that day...don't get caught up now in what could happen! The whole point is to marry the one you love...not please all who come! And if all who come see how relaxed and happy you are...they won't be anything but pleased with all you have done! One more bit of advice? Don't break the bank! An "I do" is still an "I do" whether it cost a million or a buck! Use your money where it counts the most...in what makes you and your hubby-to-be happy!

Best of luck and please keep us updated!

When my wife and I got married, we weren't well off at all. I think I made $2200 that first year we were married and lived in a house trailer my wife's grandmother let us use. We made our own finger foods for the reception and played my ol' vinyl records for the music. Our reception was in the basement of the church rectory. I remember our honeymoon was up in Michigan where we had a cabin for the week. When we got home, we had $6 to our name. Yikes!

That was 43 years ago and I still wouldn't trade her for the world, so I guess something must have worked pretty well. ;)

I still think ours was one terrific wedding and we had a great time. Honestly, I don't remember if we even had any "favors." God bless you both and here's hoping everything works out great for you!
