Cheap but delicious : suggestions for a poor student

I love to eat. I love to eat delicious things. I would spend all day eating if I could! I do like to cook too. The only problem is I find I spend a bit too much money on food. My question to you is, what is your favourite cheap meal? I can only eat so much spaghetti before it starts coming out of my ears

Fried rice is cheap and easy.

Tuna casserole is too.

Ohhh thanks for the link Lilith!

Coaster, I don't often think to include cheese in my meals, I'll have to try that!

TinglingTess, they do indeed sound yummy... Thanks!

Tuna noodle casserole: can of tuna (watch for the sales), can of mushroom soup, and some noodles

English muffin pizza.. lol - we ate a lot of these as a kid.

English Muffin - toasted
tomato sauce
garlic powder
Moz. cheese (grated, or slice)

Put in microwave to melt cheese if you are in a hurry, or put in toaster oven or oven to melt cheese. If you want to you can add a slice of peperoni, or some leftover veggies.. whatever you want for a topping.. :D

Me on a platter ;)

Chicken breast fine sliced and fried in sweet chilli sauce. A bit of well drained tinned pineapple, and spaghetti (Hokien noodles are better) all tossed. Stir in some coconut cream for adventure and you have three meals which don't get boring by the third.

Mix equal parts Rice & Water--about 2-3 Cups. Mix in one can cream mushroom soup(generic brand works); pour into a baking dish or 9x13 pan..whatever it fits in and lay a couple 3-4 chicken breast on top. Bake at 375 for an hour or til the chicken is done and voila..a meal in a pan.

TinTennessee 09-04-2006 09:23 PM

1 lb of ground beef
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 bag of egg noodles
1 8 oz container of sour cream

brown the beef and drain
cook noodles
mix all ingredients and you have cheap hamburger stroganoff :)

When mom and dad were short on cash mom would make rice and then put in a can of ABC soup minus the water.

meatloaf...add breadcrumbs to make the meat stretch.

Mom fixed that a lot...and mac n cheese

I"m getting hungry.

For inexpensive meals, we'll look to soups a lot. Tomato, chicken noodle or cream of mushroom are all good bets along with Tortilla Soup with Fritos instead of crackers in it.
