R I P Arif Mardin

From NPP web page:

<The legendary music producer Arif Mardin, has died. In a long and varied career, Mardin worked with performers ranging from Aretha Franklin to the Bee Gees, and from Chaka Khan to Norah Jones.

In a fickle business where hits and hit-makers come and go like the seasons, Arif Mardin was a rarity: a music producer who kept churning out chart-topping songs for more than four decades.

Mardin's streak began in 1966 with his first hit, "Good Lovin'" by the Rascals.

Born in Turkey, Mardin came to the United States to study music. With Atlantic Records and later EMI, his career was distinguished for its longevity, variety and its success -- even in his later years.

Mardin died Sunday. He was suffering from pancreatic cancer.>

It was Mardin who brought Aretha Franklin to Muscle Shoals to record her first hit, "I Ain't Never Loved a Man the Way That I Love You," & he brought Brit singer Dusty Springfield to Memphis to record her soulful hit, "Son of a Preacher Man"...

Is it too late to ask for just one more hit?

I suppose so.

Wow he was responsible for some of the things I love most and I didn't even know his name.

RIP

To have worked with Aretha in the beginning to Norah Jones at the end was to have covered a lotta ground...the saddest part I heard on the radio was that he was unable to complete his memoirs...there must have been a shitload of great stories in there, we can only hope he had enough time to get some of the good ones down...
