Cyclone Monica and Old Fart

For those who want to know how close the cyclone is to Old Fart you can check this link http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDE00902.loop.shtml and this one as it gets closer to Darwin http://mirror.bom.gov.au/products/IDR632.loop.shtml

Monica's turned inland and is going to thrash herself to death to our souh.

We'll still get wild weather from her, but not the full-on hit of a cyclone.

wyndhy 04-24-2006 04:06 PM

even so, stay safe until monica blows

over.
:D

wyndhy 04-24-2006 04:08 PM

my most sincere apologies but someone had to do it. :p

Oldfart 04-24-2006 04:16 PM

No apologies needed, some things just need to be said.

Oldfart 04-25-2006 12:13 AM

Monica's now just a tropical depression abot 10 miles from here, 50mph winds and some rain.

She could have been so much worse.

No doubt! I kept thinking it was an age gap story. :)

Good to see it fizzed out OF

Oldfart 04-26-2006 01:59 AM

She's not fizzed yet.

There is still a chance she'll do a Glenn Close and beat the shit out of Dampier and Kununurra.

Looks like from the latest loop that she's almost completely over land now...the good news - getting a cyclone off the water removes the energy source, the bad news - looks like she picked up enough energy before landfall to still throw a major hissy fit...

Oldfart 04-26-2006 06:01 PM

When the atmosphere gets hissy, it's not fun.

Our topography doesn't lend itself to tornados as well as mid-America does.

We trust that she was the dying gasp of our monsoon season. Bring on the dry!!

Just as an aside, had I not been rostered for work, I would have tried to get together a cyclone party at a local restaurant, "Lewinsky's".

That's what we always thought about our somewhat hilly terrain...the downside is that when a storm does generate sufficient energy to create a funnel cloud, it tends to be a really big bad bully, kicking the everlovin shit out of everything it touches...

Oldfart 04-27-2006 03:08 AM

Bad cloud, bad cloud.

There, did that work?

Sorry, clouded judgement there.

No, I've been brain-storming.
