A necklace for a little girl
Hi everyone! Next week I am going to be visiting some friends who have a 4-year-old daughter, and as I was beading tonight I decided to make the girl a necklace. My only problem is, I want this to be a surprise, so I can't exactly ask my friends how long I should make the necklace! I know a lot of you have children, could anyone help me out? How long should I make a necklace to fit a 4-year-old girl?

I'm almost clueless in this as well, but just for those who might know the answer ... is it just going to slip over the head, or is it going to have some kind of a clasp? If over the head, it probably needs to be close to regular size, cause I think a 4 year old's head is about 70-80% of what it will be when they are full grown ... that's just some odd thing that is sticking in my head ... could easily be wrong!!! :)

12 or 14 inches

Fzzy, it will have a clasp.
Thank you, Lilith!!!!! |
Awwwww! That's sweet PS! I know she'll adore it!

It depends on the INDIVIDUAL person.Ex-I personalyhave an 18 1/2 inch
neck & I'm not that big a person.I work out every day,but do NO neck excercises.I was just born with a big neck! Irish |
I just measured my 5 1/2 y/o collar on her shirt, which sits on her like how a necklace that I would want her to wear sits, down to her collarbones. Was just under 16 inches. Hope that helps.

Thanks Lizzardbits! I do want to make it a bit longer in the hopes that she'll be able to wear it for some years yet without outgrowing it too fast!

Make two necklaces.....A short one according to Lizz and a long one for the long dress,Bohemian look ;) <<(I love that look!)

The last time I saw the said 4-year-old, she wasn't wearing long Bohemian type dresses ;) She is much more a jeans and a t-shirt type of little girl.
