Easter Eggs? Who Knew!

So I learned something new today!

Hub asked me to do a search for him tonight on "Easter Egg DVD Pirates of the Caribbean"

So I bit. Turns out that many DVD's have hidden treasures. The name came about because as most will know, during the Easter holiday, people will paint eggs, then hide them for their children to find. This is the traditional idea behind the "Easter Egg".

Extend that idea into the digital world, and an Easter Egg is something that is hidden, in some form of media. The developers who make the DVD's, their menu systems, etc. tend to hide special features on the disc.

So this was a fascinating tidbit I thought I'd share during this holiday weekend.

Here's one list to start your Easter Egg hunt! Have fun!

Example:
1
Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl has 10 hidden treasures. Did you know there is an interview with Keith Richards on that DVD? How to find it?

Enter second Disc. Highlight and enter "Moonlight Serenade Scene Progression." Go down Main Menu and hit down again to highlight the tooth of the skeleton to the right. Hit enter and you will see a quick interview with Keith Richards. The inspiration for Johnny Depp's Character, Captain Jack Sparrow.

Special Requirements:
2-Disc Collector's edition

Doesn't really surprise me, video games have been hiding things since Mario Bros. (ie the controversial "hot Coffee" prize hidden within Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas)...I guess it was just a matter of time until they used the same techniques on DVD...

My understanding has always been that it begun when people would spot things in movies that just didn't belong. Then producers decided to put things in on purpose.
