how does this go?
Silly thing really, but its annoying me.
I once saw a joke in the form of graffiti. It started... e=mc2 Einstein) and ended... shoo be do be doo (Sinatra) but what where the intervening stages of slight alteration to get there? My memory tells me it was really funny, i really hope it is worth while when i find out!! |
I saw that too...it was more like this;
To do is to be - (can't remember the name) To be is to do - (can't remember the name) Do be do be do - Sinatra |
To do is to be (Socrates)
To be is to do (Sartre) OOh be doo be doo (Sinatra) It's a famous piece of graffiti. |
Thanx OF...I knew someone around here more literate than I would be able to pull the correct names out of his hat...glad it was you ;)
Thinking back, I believe my confusion about the names was due to the fact that I saw the grafitti in a restroom at the local upscale university, & underneath it someone else had started a debate about who had said what...typical Vandy student behavior... |
Oooooo. :)

i thought "to be is to do" was aristotle... :confused: |
but then wikipedia has it as this:
To be is to be--Sartre; To be is to do--Aristotle; To be or not to be--Shakespear; Do be do be do--Sinatra |
http://quotes.prolix.nu/Philosophy/ will however tell you "to do is to be" is Voltaire..."to be is to do" is Descartes...and for some reason has Edgar Allen Poe listed as a philosopher?? :confused:
