Transitions — Eugene McCarthy
 
The former senator ran for president several times, but was best known as an anti-Vietnam war campaigner. Back in 1968, his anti-war campaign was so strong it helped persuade President Johnson against running for re-election.

He was 89 years old.

There goes a guy who fought for his beliefs.

As in the last of the '68 US presidential candidates? That may well be, I seem to recall that George McGovern made a last-minute bid to join the fray after the death of RFK, but he was not a significant player until 4 years later...
